Description

Hillel at Miami is seeking a dynamic game-changer to serve as Assistant Director. In this role you will drive Hillel at Miami forward with big Jewish thinking and an instinct for excellence. The Assistant Director will be an ambitious professional inspired by the opportunity to orchestrate the programmatic vision of a leading collegiate institution in the Midwest. Working collaboratively and overseeing Hillel’s vast calendar of educational and cultural offerings, you’ll help enable every student on campus to explore, develop, and deepen their Jewish identity. In this role you’ll combine your understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship alongside a demonstrated track record as mentor and supervisor for a team of self-starting engagement professionals. The Assistant Director will operate as the heart of the Hillel at Miami team, ensuring its position as a unique center for Jewish life in Southwest Ohio.

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW: 

Fiscal Oversight and Management

  • Work in coordination with Hillel’s accountant and/or operations team on the fiscal operation of Hillel through budget planning and management processes

Communications and Marketing

  • With the Executive Director, oversee campus marketing, public relations and promotional activities on campus

  • Build and maintain strong relationships, including clear and regular communication, with students, university partners, parents and alumni

  • Oversee the Hillel’s website and other social media outlets

Human Resources Management

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, establish and implement human resources practices, structures and systems

  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of 2-3 front-line engagement professionals

  • Manage a multi-year design-thinking-based strategic process and its implementation

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, coordinate hiring, onboarding, and evaluations for all professional staff

  • Conduct and participate in semi-annual reviews to consider successes, challenges, and opportunities for growth

Strategic Program Planning and Facilitation

  • Work closely with the Executive Director regarding strategic planning and organizational management to develop, articulate, and implement a dynamic and innovative organizational mission and vision for the Hillel

  • Oversee the implementation of Hillel’s mission by empowering staff and students, ensuring that programmatic and facility operations support the Hillel’s mission-driven goals

  • Manage to outcomes, ensuring the team achieves desired results and measures of success

Student Engagement, Student Relations and Leadership Development

  • Oversee the vision and implementation of engagement, immersive experiences, leadership development and programming

  • Work closely with Hillel’s Program and Engagement staff to coordinate leadership curriculum, learning opportunities, and engagement strategy. Ensure that these offerings are diverse and pluralistic

  • Manage internal processes for student leaders, including hiring, funding, and planning

Jewish Education

  • With the Executive Director, help create a pluralistic, inclusive and innovative Jewish educational vision for the Hillel

  • Demonstrate facility and comfort with Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and basic texts. Communicate this knowledge to others

  • Serve as a Jewish educational resource for others

  • Ensure a diversity of perspectives on Israel are presented in a way that engages students

Inspires Interest in Jewish Life

  • Serve as a strong Jewish role model

  • Ensure a pluralistic and welcoming atmosphere for all

  • Actively seek out and participate in Jewish experiences for professional and personal growth

  • Engage in meaningful one-on-one and group conversations about Jewish life and living

  • Produce creative Jewish experiences to develop students’ Jewish identities

  • Help others along a path of Jewish discovery

Stakeholder Relations: Board of Directors, Campus, Community and/or Hillel International

  • Work strategically with the university so that the campus Hillel is an integral component of the college experience; create strategic alliances with different departments and schools and represent the Jewish community on campus

  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with partner organizations in the state and nationally

  • Stimulate community support and involvement in student programs by communicating Hillel’s vision with lay leaders, alumni, parents, and community members

  • Encourage student participation in local Jewish community events and other opportunities nationally and abroad

What You’ve Accomplished

  • 3+ years in Jewish, experiential, or higher education

  • Experience as a professional in a Jewish nonprofit organization is preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Proven Success

    • Hiring and managing a team. Excellent supervision skills and ability to coach others to achieve outcomes

    • Creating structures and opportunities that assist and empower students to take initiative and ownership for their communities

    • Developing and/or implementing a sophisticated engagement strategy, including reporting and tracking data

    • Management of multiple projects while maintaining quality

      • Planning and execution of projects and programs

      • Fiscal budgeting and building operations

      • Goal-oriented project management

  • An understanding of the dynamism of Jewish life and how that affects current and future generations of university students

  • Experience empowering college students and developing their leadership

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership development skills

  • Holds others accountable to high standards

  • Capable of working independently and prioritizing to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work nights and some weekends a must

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience (range: $70,000 - $75,000)
